Well first of all happy thanksgiving! All over the Thanksgiving break I have been telling my parents about how I think it is pretty necessary that I need an iPhone or an android phone. I know I know im skipping a holiday, don’t think of it that way just think that I am “forward thinking” Now my brother is all about the new windows phone, and I must give credit where credit is due. It is pretty sweet, HOWEVER, I can’t shake the fact that iPhone is the way I should go.
So I am waiting with bated breath to get my iPhone for christmas.I asked my brother what is favorite application is on his phone and the boring response of a Neuroscience grad student is “office” then he picked up his phone looked at it and said well maybe maps or slacker radio.
I hate to break it to you Alex Krupka, but that is LAME. I’m looking for the movie apps, the to-do-lists, the music apps and all that jazz.
So I went on a quest to find the 5 must have applications for the upcoming Christmas present I am HOPING to receive.
First off Chomp. Chomp is an application that tells you all of the other applications you should be downloading. Based on your interests and what you do and do not have. Chomp the website already pulls up multiple applications that they think that you should download. You can also download some of them for iPods, making this site sick for any Apple fanatic.
Second-Google Goggles. Well naturally as a savvy social media student (well, I wish) these goggles are much more interesting. Put away those night vision goggles and get out these. Have you seen the Wal-Mart commercials this Christmas? In the bottom corner are these baby little boxes that have this weird pattern on it. Well, take a picture (of the QR code) with the google goggles and it takes you directly to the website. This is find is pretty cool, it isn’t everywhere however it is up and coming. Communication companies are doing scavenger hunts and you can find QR codes scattered through New York City. If you want your own QR code click here!
Three-Kik Yes, yes, roll your eyes because I know everyone has it however there is some merit to EVERYONE having it. Pretty much anyone with some type of smart phone has this application. It is like blackberry messenger, except, all smart, android, and iPhones can use it. Personally all of my roommates have it and I must say I have tried it and I really like it. I have only heard one thing that is negative about it and that is that for some blackberry’s it drains the battery.Best part about it? Free.
Four- Shazam. Quite often than not there is a song playing on the radio, at a party, or pretty much anywhere that I have NO idea what it is, usually I can’t even get who it is sung by correct. Shazam has literally solved all of my music problems. You hold it up to the speakers and watch it identify the song, read the reviews users SWARE it works, not to mention watch the videos!
Lastly- Mint.com personal finance. Sign up for this account if you can because it is literally SCARY. You sign up, link to your bank account, you can create budgets. How much you should be spending on everything that you usually take out of your bank account. I did it over the summer one day and never wanted to log in again. The amount of money spent at Ann Taylor Loft (oops did I link that =) ….woah. However at the end of the month your overspending comes to bite you literally where it hurts. It calculates for you how much you spent over your assumed budget. You may not want to see it, but you should. Almost all banks can link to it as well!
Well enjoy your turkey and naps because I know I will and start thinking up your wishlists…Any apps that I’m missing? Feel free to let me know.
HAPPY TURKEY DAY!
